Paste filling technology refers to the process of making solid, liquid, or gaseous materials into paste form and filling them into containers or molds. In the mining industry, paste filling is a mining method in which filling materials are made into paste form and then injected into the goaf for filling. It is achieved by optimizing the combination of industrial waste tailings, fly ash, slag, sand and gravel with cement to prepare a paste like slurry with good pumpability, which is pumped into the underground goaf by a hydraulic piston pump under "plunger flow" conditions.

It has been widely used in the mining of metallic and non-metallic minerals. For example, in response to the complex and difficult mining situation of the western ore body of the Qianbixi copper mine, combined with material characteristics, a paste filling process consisting of one stage thickening, two stage stirring, and plunger pump transportation was selected to form tailings deep cone thickening anti pressure rake technology, deep cone bottom flow concentration and paste preparation quality intelligent control system, etc; In the process of coal mining in eastern China, when encountering the problem of mining coal resources under buildings, water bodies, railways, and pressurized water bodies, paste filling technology can also be used for "three underground" coal mining. And some coal mines in our country have adopted the solid waste paste filling non relocation coal mining technology, which can effectively solve the problems of traditional relocation mining and strip mining in village coal pressing, and has obvious advantages.
The paste filling technology is an important technical means for efficient disposal of solid waste in mines and safe underground mining. It can control the movement of mining rock layers and prevent surface subsidence. For example, the high flow paste self flowing filling and long-distance high concentration tail joint treatment process were applied in the southeast ore body of Qianbixi Copper Mine, which has four key technologies.
